As the 7th son of Jacob, Dan was tasked with great responsibility, as his name stems from the root word for justice. Turquoise was the representative stone for the Tribe of Dan on the Priestly Breastplate. Like his stone he was colorful yet transparent, specifically as a leader of his people. His tribal symbol is depicted as either a Scale of Justice or a Snake, as it is written "Dan shall seek justice for his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent by the road, A viper by the path, that bites the horse’s heels So that his rider is thrown backward" (Genesis 49:16-17).
