In line with its light color, Morganite is believed to relieve anxiety and overcome negative feelings like resentment and anger and is thought to encourage consideration and responsibility in one’s actions. It is also believed to aid in the relief of respiratory ailments, specifically tuberculosis, asthma, emphysema, and other unrelated ailments like vertigo and impotence. Morganite gets is champagne-like color from the chemical manganese. The stone ranges in color from peach to salmon, rose, and pink.

STORY

Also known as ‘pink beryl’ Morganite derives its name from the famous financier J.P. Morgan.  After it was discovered in 1911 in Madagascar, his friend and famous gemologist George Kunz of Tiffany and Co. suggested that the stone be named for Morgan because of his love of gems and for his philanthropic work. Morganite is found around the world mostly in Minas Gerias, Brazil but also in substantial quantities in Afghanistan, and southern Africa. Although the stone can be found in the US in Maine and in California, it only exists here in small quantities.
